Loyle Carner used his Reading Festival 2026 performance to speak about several social and political issues between songs. During the August 30 set, the British rapper addressed J.K. Rowling, toxic masculinity, the far right and support for the NHS while introducing material from his recent work.
Speaking from the stage before performing Horcrux, Carner explained the song’s connection to Harry Potter while distancing himself from Rowling’s views. The track appears on his 2025 album Hopefully! and uses the fictional concept of a Horcrux as part of a broader reflection on parenthood and identity.
Carner also spoke about raising his five-year-old son and criticized what he described as toxic masculinity. He highlighted the importance of emotional awareness and giving young men space to discuss difficult feelings openly.
Later in the set, he introduced Speed Of Plight as a song opposed to the far right and encouraged the audience to show support for the NHS. His comments continued themes he has previously explored in his music and live performances, particularly masculinity, family and emotional expression.
