Watches and Warnings
A watch means conditions are possible. A warning means conditions are happening or imminent. Take action immediately during warnings.
Severe Thunderstorms
- Watch: Severe storms are possible.
- Warning: Severe storms are occurring or imminent. Get indoors.
Tornadoes
- Watch: Tornadoes are possible. Stay alert.
- Warning: A tornado is detected or sighted. Go to a safe room immediately.
Flooding
- Flood Watch: Flooding is possible.
- Flood Warning: Flooding is occurring or imminent.
- Flash Flood Warning: Move to higher ground immediately.
Tropical Storms
- Watch: Winds of 39 to 73 mph possible within 48 hours.
- Warning: Winds of 39 to 73 mph expected within 36 hours.
Hurricanes
- Watch: Winds of 74 mph or higher possible within 48 hours.
- Warning: Winds of 74 mph or higher expected within 36 hours.
Insurance Preparation
- Know your standard deductible
- Know your hurricane deductible
- Determine if you need flood insurance
- Confirm coverage to rebuild and replace belongings
- Check loss of use coverage for temporary housing
Evacuation Basics
